What are the elements of Design?

 


Lines

It is most basic element of design different types of lines convey different feelings. Straight line convey direction, formality. Where as curve lines denote playfulness and informality. The 3rd dimension is concerned it gives rise to form and shape should be aesthetically pleasing should flow the function it is required for.





Space

A designer is basically required to design a space. Different types of space create various types of effects. A space allotted to a room is governed by the function it has to serve and also a kind of effect required.



Color

It is the most important and noticeable and the least expensive element. In designing  colors can be divided into two categories – cool and warm colors.

The choice of a color in a particular area it also depend upon the amount of light received by that area. In dark places light and pastel colors should be used. In well light places dark colors should be used.



Light

Lighting is the powerful element in interiors. Brightly lit spaces convey a cheerful effect whereas dim light spaces give cozy effects. The real skill if a lighting is to maintain a balance between a practical required of elimination and a desire for pleasing or dramatic visual effects.



Texture

The smoothness and roughness of a surface is known as its texture. Smooth texture looks formal and classic. They tend to reflect light. Rough textures like more causal. They to absorb light and sound.



Pattern

Pattern is related to the finishes in an interior. For example wall, ceiling, floor, upholstery. The amount and the type of a pattern should be used in a proper manner. Bold pattern can attract attention, add drama and excitement. Pattern can change the mood of interiors. Big floral pattern on the other hand gives a dignified look.



Ornamentation

The amount of ornamentation (decoration) should be carefully used. It goes well with classic and formal themes. In simple modernistic interior, ornamentation is used as its minimum.
